"The Boxer"-Simon and Garfunkel
I just love Simon and Garfunkel in general. Again this is a musical group that makes me think of my mom and being a little kid. I love how pretty folk music is. The acoustic guitar is such a beautiful instrument. That is especially why I love this song because it has the acoustic folk but then the whole band comes in and it is so powerful. It tells such an awesome story of a young kid leaving home and trying to make it in the world. I especially relate to this song after moving away from home this summer. In the chorus they have the gunshot and I think that really adds to the whole feel and power of the song. The imagery of a boxer is so cool to me. I love the feel of this song when it portrays being all alone against the world and I think that we can all relate to that to a certain extent. Simon and Garfunkel are such an important part of the music industry and I think of American History. The whole counterculture and protests to Vietnam and the civil Rights movements are very pivotal moments in American history. I love this song and this band.
