"Creep"-Radiohead

Creep by Radiohead is an awesome song. It is very 90's sounding and is definitely a rock song. Radiohead strayed from rock and became very experimental later in their career. This song was at the beginning so it falls a lot more in the vein of Rock. The guitar effects are very grungy and dated in a really cool way. The lyrics are a lot darker than most rock music. This song goes softer and quiet in the beginning and then for the chorus goes all out with the guitar and vocals. This song portrays a mood and feeling super well. Something that their later more experimental albums perfect. In the song the lyrics are very self deprecating to the point its almost like self-harm, which is a common theme with grunge and 90's alternative. This is a really good song and I would highly recommend. -K.

"Psycho Killer" by The Talking Heads

This song is so awesome to me. Before this my older brother showed me this song so there are some good memories associated with this song. I love how he is talking about killing people as a psycho killer in such a goofy song. He does so many little things with his voice that give the song so much melodramatic energy and humor. In the live performance video we watched he has a very peculiar way of dancing with his hips. They are all dressed in collared shirts and they fit the vibe so perfectly. This song is so interesting because it is portraying a schizophrenic murderer and his internal struggle. The bass is so heavy through the song driving it forward. The band all looked like very fun people to spend time with in the seventies. This song is so interesting and I love it. -K.

"Fortunate Son"-Creedence Clearwater Revival

November 1st has always been my oldest brothers favorite date. I am not really sure why but it is a cool date. I spent this whole summer with him in Hawaii and we listened to this song what feels like every day. It is an awesome song with a lot of emotion and history tied to it. It was written during the Vietnam war and talks about how he is not fortunate and will have to go fight. It is used patriotically which is funny because it is actually protesting a lot about America. Creedence Clearwater Revival are an awesome band with a lot of good music. This song is no exception. I just love this song because I think of driving around in my brothers car and working in the Taco truck with him. This song is also a meme which is pretty funny. I think that makes the song even better because it has an element of humor to our generation. This song embodies so much frustration and fighting spirit I think everyone feels. It is especially present in young guys. The guitar settings are so crisp ...

"The Boxer"-Simon and Garfunkel

I just love Simon and Garfunkel in general. Again this is a musical group that makes me think of my mom and being a little kid. I love how pretty folk music is. The acoustic guitar is such a beautiful instrument. That is especially why I love this song because it has the acoustic folk but then the whole band comes in and it is so powerful. It tells such an awesome story of a young kid leaving home and trying to make it in the world. I especially relate to this song after moving away from home this summer. In the chorus they have the gunshot and I think that really adds to the whole feel and power of the song. The imagery of a boxer is so cool to me. I love the feel of this song when it portrays being all alone against the world and I think that we can all relate to that to a certain extent. Simon and Garfunkel are such an important part of the music industry and I think of American History. The whole counterculture and protests to Vietnam and the civil Rights movements are very pi...

"Runaround Sue"-Dion

I can't even begin to describe this song. I found it when I was thirteen in the eighth grade. It seriously changed me and my taste of music. It is such a good song. It is only two minutes and fifty two seconds but it conveys so much emotion. I love how simple and pure the song is. It isn't trying to hard it just talks about a girl breaking your heart. Because this song was recorded in the sixties it has that authentic and old time feel. Dion's voice has such a perfect tone for this song. He sounds so emotional but still doo-wop. The backing vocals also help the whole feel of the song as well. I used to listen to this song everyday after school while I would ride my bike around. This song still sounds as good and euphoric as the first time I heard it back in eighth grade. I think the reason this song still resonates with me is because I can still listen to it even after knowing it for so long and listening to it so many times. I love this song and so many of the memories I ...

"Nature Boy"-Nat "King" Cole

This song really stuck out to me for several reasons. Nat "King" Cole has an absolutely amazing voice especially on this song. He really captures an aesthetic with the song nature boy. He has such an atmosphere while performing this song. His voice is so smooth and the instruments always come in at the perfect moment. It brings to my mind a Disney villain enchanting the hero. I can very easily get lost in this song and its atmosphere. It has a very pretty and sinister feel to it. I used to play the cello for a long time all through middle school and high school. Because I played cello for so long I can really appreciate the use of strings in this song. I love the cello and just orchestras in general. This song captures the essence of a dark and smoky room very late at night. I like when he talks about love as the most important thing you can learn. I think that Love is really behind everything we do. Love has so many various forms and it is somehow different for everybody an...

"Taking A Chance On Love" by Benny Goodman

This song really stuck out to me for a few reasons. It has such a calm feel. The swing of the beat and trumpets is very calming to me. You can really hear the jazz influence in this song. I love the saxophone solo towards the end of the song. The song is pretty short which I like a lot. This song is about taking a chance on love and I think it displays the feeling perfectly. It was written so long ago and yet it is still very relatable all these many years later. I heard this song for the first time in class and yet it sounded familiar. I think that is because of how well it matches the emotion of falling in love so well. A big thing I look for in music is how well it conveys a message or an emotion. This song reminds me of "Can't take my eyes off of you" by Franki Valley and the four seasons. It has that jazz influenced swing and brass. Both of these songs make me think of that feeling of being in love although I have memories and experiences related to Can't take m...
