"Gospel Ship" By The Carter Family

I love the feel of this song. It has such an authentic feel with the old recording style. It represents a very American and even Human theme of waiting and hoping for the peaceful ending after this life, or in this case the gospel ship. It represents the Christian history of our country and especially the deep south. This song feels like the journey that we call the human experience is over. I can picture this song to credits of my life after I die (Hopefully that is a long way away). I like how peaceful it is. It has a very earthy feel that I find really comforting. This reminds me of scenes in movies where they are sitting on the porch watching the sunset. I thought it was super interesting in class today when we talked about the separation of gospel music and popular music. It shows how strict the religion was then and how much bigger a part it played in the culture back then. I feel that the integration of church music into popular music has been for the most part successful. Although I personally don't enjoy a lot of Religious Pop Music I am glad that there is no longer a strict border between the two. I really enjoyed this song.

  1. I love how you described the feeling it gave you and that you compared it to a older recording style. You describe it as if it is and will give people hope for life after death and that it isn’t all that bad. The feeling you say it gives is something almost everyone wants in their life at least once.

  2. I totally with what you said, I felt the same when the song was playing. It's an oldie but with a classic/authentic style. The melody and tone is so clam that it also makes me feel at peace. The calmness really gives the song a slow and settled mood. Great post!!
